NURSERY OPTIONS IN SPAIN

ChildrenAs all nurseries in Spain must be registered and the staff holds always some form of childcare qualification, often a Bachelors degree in infant education, nurseries in Spain provide a high level of care. After you have decided which type of nursery school you want for your children, whether a Spanish nursery or a bilingual one, you should take your time and look around as much as possible. You should meet the staff and visit the school building to see the facilities. If it is possible to talk to other parents or if your child can stay a little bit to play with other children and to test if he or she likes it, you should take this opportunity a sit can make your decision a lot easier.

As the Spanish school year starts in September, most nurseries are open in May for viewing and registration. After September many nurseries are full and finding places is more difficult.

The fees for a nursery in Spain are very reasonable and cheaper than in many other EU countries. The average price for nursery for one child is 100 ? a month for 5 hours a day. Nurseries are normally open from 08.00 to at least 17.30 but the opening hours can vary depending on school and region.

If you want to register your children in a Spanish Public nursery school, you will have to provide some or all of the following documents:

  1. two photos of your child
  2. a copy of the child's vaccination certificates
  3. a medical certificate
  4. a copy of the child's registration on the town hall register
  5. copy of child's passport or identity document
  6. birth certificate
  7. copy of the mother's passport or other identity document
  8. parent's marriage certificate (if applicable)
  9. social security card

The documents you will have to provide depend on the school you choose. If you choose a private nursery school in Spain , that means most of the bilingual ones, the fees and registration requirements vary but most will require copies of vaccination certificates or a medical certificate.
