INTERNET IN SPAIN
When you are staying in Spain for a longer period of time you might wish to
have access to the Internet in Spain, as it is an easy way to stay in touch
with your family and friends at home. If you want to buy Spanish property or if
you are looking for a job in Spain, then your first step could also be
searching in the Spanish Internet.
There are different ways to get connected to the Internet in Spain and there
are also different providers available. So you should compare their prices,
rates and services before you choose one. The biggest Internet Service
Providers in Spain are: Telefónica and its affiliate Terra Networks, Ya.com and
Wanadoo.
One
possibility to get an Internet connection at your Spanish home is Dial up. You
only need a conventional telephone network and a modem that is provided to you
by your Spanish Internet Service Provider. If you do not use Internet very
often, dial up is inexpensive, as you only have to pay the rate per minute for
a local telephone call. A dial up connection is quite slow but usually the only
possibility for most rural areas where getting a broadband connection is
impossible due to low population and demand.
The high per minute rates you have to pay with a dial up connection can be
avoided by paying for a flat-rate service and an ADSL connection with your
Internet Service Provider in Spain. With ADSL you are always connected to the
Internet and you can use the telephone and the Internet at the same time. You
can stay online as long as you want to and will only have to pay one monthly
fee. The flat rates do not vary much from company to company and there are
different plans available depending on how often you use this service. Prices
at the moment are around 29 ?/month and you can choose between a modem with USB
connection and a DSL router that allows you to connect several computers.
Whereas the USB modem is for free, you will have to pay for the router. The
purchase price for a router can vary according to the provider so that you
should compare again.
